True Change
Now that President Obama has declared his reelection bid and the run for the White House begins, I confess a love/hate relationship with both the Democratic and Republican parties. I’m not quite a Liberatarian and I’m exploring what it would mean to be an Independent. That aside, it seems clear world leaders and institutions of all political persuasions do not have solutions to humanity’s desperate needs. The temptation to discouragement and despair can, at times, be great until we remember that this is not our home. However, we were put here for a purpose, to make a contribution and not bury our talents.
If we know Christ and are really listening, He will unfold that path before us. It may not always be one of prominence that changes the world, but it will be one of influence that might save a marriage, rescue a teenager, break an addiction, find a cure for a disease, defend the innocent in court, and transform a family, neighborhood, community one person at a time with the true and lasting change that comes from a new heart of faith in Christ Jesus.
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” (Ezek 36:26)“Let your light shine before me that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven.” (Matt 5: 16)“Your word is a light to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105) |

As Jesus said, we’re not to put our hope in man. Our God is the only one who will do what He says. He promised a Redeemer in the Old Testament and unveiled him in the New. Jesus fulfills all the OT promises, prophecies and pictures of himself. One of the greatest adventures is to ask when you read the bible, “Where is Jesus in what I’m reading?” If you don’t find him, you’ve missed the meaning of the text.
